Well, we’re four months into the restoration of the first 182 Cessna, 4966E. The plan is to restore the airplane back to its original paint scheme and interior finishes including the panel. It will look the same as the day it rolled off the assembly line in January of 1956.  Excitement and moral of all involved is high. Recently, Reed Lamb, a long time local aircraft mechanic, pilot, and very good friend of Dave Cano’s joined the team. Reed brings over thirty year of experience in the restorations of airplanes including World War II War Birds. Progress during the past months has been steady with all the old paint now removed and with hours of hand sanding on the aluminum skin completed the buffing and polishing can begin .  The ailerons, flaps and horizontal stabilizer are scheduled to receive new aluminum skins. Years of wear and tear have taken their toll. We’re hoping to purchase a new cowling from Cessna. With the airplane totally disassembled the decision to replace the original electrical wiring, cables, pulleys and fuel cells has been made. This equipment is over 49 years old and even though it appears to still be in good condition we’ll never get a better opportunity to replace it.
